HAWKS STRIKE GOLD
GOLD Omotayo’s 58th minute free kick was enough to see Whitehawk earn an important three points in their bid for a Great Escape.
Both sides had chances in the opening period, David Pearce with the first as he shot just wide for City from the edge of the box in the fifth minute.
New Hoops signing Craig King was called
into action just three minutes after as he came out and saved well after Elliot Benyon was played through.
He was again forced into action on 25 minutes as he got down well to push away Omotayo’s goalbound effort.
City’s best chance of the match came on 31 minutes as Pearce’s powerful shot from the edge of the box was brilliantly saved by Ben Wilks, despite seeing the ball late.
The Hawks controlled the second period, and got their reward on 58 minutes. A free-kick following a foul on Benyon to the left of the box was brilliantly curled over the wall, leaving King was no chance in the City goal.
They nearly doubled their lead with eight minutes to go as Yannis Ambroisine’s header from a corner was tipped over the bar by King.
Ryan Worrell forced a final save out of King in the third added minute, the keeper pushing his shot around his near post.
