MAIDSTONE UNITED 2 HEYBRIDGE SWIFTS 1

The Non-League Football Paper - - FA TROPHY SECOND ROUND PROPER - By Ruth Tunnell

FIRST-HALF goals from Jamar Loza and Darius Osei ensured Maidstone finally registered their first win at home since October at the expense of brave Bostik North side Heybridge Swifts.

But it took a glaring early miss from Swifts’ Lewis Godbold to get the National League side motoring – the striker latching onto Lewis Dark’s through ball inside the box only to lift his chance over the bar.

Maidstone made him pay on 28 minutes when Jai Reason crossed from the left and Loza fired a low effort past Danny Sambridge, although the ball did appear to hit his arm.

Then, two minutes before the break, Joe Anderson’s deep corner found Josh Hare, who headed the ball back across the box and Osei arrived to nod in his first goal for the Stones.

Maidstone dominated the second half with Delano SamYorke squandering a couple of chances before Heybridge ensured a nervy last 10 minutes for the Stones – Juan Luque showing excellent technique to riffle in a volley from the edge of the box.

STAR MAN: Darius Osei (Maidstone) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
