UNBEATEN RUN GOES ON FOR WELLING

WELLING UNITED 2 EAST THURROCK U 0

- By Mark Doig

WELLING extended their unbeaten league run with a workmanlike victory.

Tom Derry’s header come back off the bar and Dan Wilks made an excellent save from Roman Michael-Percil but after that Welling dominated the first period.

They went ahead in the 16th minute when an excellent Jack Jebb corner found Brendan Kiernan at the far post and he scored.

Ten minutes later, Welling went two up. Brilliant hold up play by Danny Mills allowed him to get it out to Craig Braham-Barrett who found Jack Jebb on the edge of the area. He looked up and picked his spot before firing home.

Jack Giddens made a good save from Bradley Goldberg before Welling missed a great chance to extend their lead. Kiernan was clipped in the penalty area by Tom Stephen but Goldberg’s penalty lacked conviction and was saved.

After the break it was a bit tighter with neither team having clear cut chances until Wilks made a stunning save from Derry’s shot.

It was then Giddens’ turn when he made three outstanding saves in quick succession with Goldberg, Danny Mills and Kiernan guilty.

Kiernan had a late effort hit the post and goalkeeper as Welling saw the game out in relative comfort.
