Double delight as Dent scores twice

- By Keith Trudgeon

THE TWO Celtics fought each other to a standstill.

It was the visitors who took the lead on 19 minutes when despite several attempts Stalybridge were unable to clear their lines and Will Hayhurst was on hand to score.

Neil Kengni crashed a rising drive against the bar and Chris Sharp drove into the side netting as the home team searched for an equaliser.

And it came in somewhat fortunate fashion five minutes before the break when Glenn Rule’s fizzing drive took a wicked deflection off the unwitting but happy Ross Dent to wrong foot Kyle Trenerry.

Farsley restored their lead on 54 minutes when James Spencer was on hand to force home the rebound after Paddy Wharton thwarted Ben Atkinson with an excellent stop.

But Stalybridge rescued a point ten minutes later, Dent netting his second after a lung bursting run allowed him to acrobatically volley home Kengni’s cross. Both sides saw chipped efforts land agonisingly on the roof of the net, with Farsley sub Luke Parkin and Kengni the unfortunate players to miss out on the winner.
