Drought over for prolific Clarets
CHELMSFORD CITY 3 EASTBOURNE BOROUGH 2
CITY ended their 71-day run without a home win with victory over in-form Borough.
Having scored 18 goals in their previous four meetings against the Sports, City could not have asked for a better start when Scott Fenwick turned Chez Isaac’s low cross in after three minutes.
The Clarets could have been further ahead moments later, but Michael Spillane’s header flashed wide.
Chelmsford could have doubled their advantage when Rhys Murphy stabbed a shot towards goal, but Mark Smith produce a strong hand to parry.
But City didn’t have to wait long before their lead was extended. The visitors failed to clear a corner and the ball fell to Anthony Church who looped a shot over Smith.
Smith then hesitated over Murphy’s cross, and Fenwick rose highest to nod home from close range.
Eastbourne pulled a goal back two minutes later as Dean Cox stroked home from the spot after Ryan Hall was fouled.
The visitors came out better for the second half, but scored with only three minutes left as Hall bundled in from close range.
