RANGERS STAGE AN UPSET FOR THE AGES
FORMER FA Vase winners Dunston UTS were undone by two contrasting Liam Nelthorpe free kicks as they crashed out in the second round.
Dunston, who started the season with a 15game unbeaten run, bossed the second half only to be hit by a sucker-punch at the death.
North East Counties second division leaders Winterton, with Kieran Wressle outstanding at the back, pulled off a cup shock in Lincolnshire.
Karl Dryden in the Dunston goal, however, was rarely tested until he was picking Nelthorpe’s free-kick out of the bottom corner.
Earlier, Winterton keeper Jordan Quibell made a fine block on the edge of the box to deny Dunston striker Mark Fitzpatrick.
With the wind behind them in the second period Dunston immediatly hit back.
They found the net just one minute in to the second half, when Robbie Start put through his own goal.
Winterton were then lucky to survive strong penalty claims and Quibell saved well from Craig Scott and Callum Little fired a powerful effort a matter of inches over the bar.
But when Nelthorpe’s injury time wind assisted free-kick found the net it was the home side that was celebrating a rousing upset.
