Greenbacks kept at bay by red-hot Reece

The Non-League Football Paper - - STEP 3 ACTION - By Jamie Home

GOALS from Liam Howards and Shaquille Leachman-Whittingham gave in-form Redditch United victory at Bedworth United.

Though the scoreline suggests a comfortable afternoon, it was anything but, with keeper Reece Francis making four excellent saves, including a stunner from Luke Rowe’s stoppage-time penalty.

Kai Tonge and Elliot Parrott both went close for the struggling hosts but after 11 minutes, Leachman Whittington shot from 20 yards, the ball deflected off Howards, and nestled in the bottom right-hand corner, with keeper Adam Harrison going the other way.

Francis then beat out a Tonge volley before Leachman-Whittington found space to thump in a second after 27 minutes.

Francis denied substitute Owen Story after Jake Whitmore’s excellent run and cross.

Bedworth had most of the play after the break but were lucky when Michael Nelson blasted over and Harrison then denied him just before the end

Home goalkeeper Francis then saved deep in added time from Aaron Blackmore, who was fouled by Nyeko Sinclair as he followed up, but Francis moved smartly to his left to keep the ball out of the net and prevent Rowe from registering a last-gasp consolation effort for the away side.

STAR MAN: Reece Francis (Redditch) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
