Youngsters deserve a dedicated skate park

Sir, I was reading the July 16 edition of the Oban Times and saw the story about the new pedestrian area in Oban that is being used by youngsters as a skateboard and BMX park at night.

Yes, they should not be using the area like that but who in their right mind designed the area the way it is? Of course it will attract young people. I do not condone this but how much did the area cost?

The cost of a skate and bike park would be a fraction of the cost.

How about we get the local community and councils to back the idea of a purpose built skate and bike park. This would get them off the street and promote a healthy lifestyle.

I am trying to find funding for a skate and bike park in Kinlochleven and the assistance for these sort of activates is minimal. It’s a disgrace money is unwisely spent and the youth again are given a bad name.

The area in Oban is a waste of tax payers’ money and the youth deserve a dedicated area.
