Hartson’s Heroes conquer the Ben

The Oban Times - - Sport 31 -

FORMER old firm footballer, John Hartson conquered Ben Nevis for the fifth time at the weekend, raising thousands of pounds for his cancer charity.

This year marks the fifth birthday of the John Hartson foundation and on Saturday the ex- Celtic star climbed Britain’s highest mountain with his wife, Sarah, orginially from Spean Bridge, and a group of 50 supporters, dubbed ‘Hartson’s Heroes’.

The 40-year- old said last year would be his last time on the Ben, but couldn’t resist the fundraising opportunity when each walker pledged to raise £ 500 for the charity.

Mr Hartson spent a lot of time in Lochaber when recovering from gruelling treatment for testicular cancer, which had spread to his lungs and brain and left him seriously ill.
