Youth worker calls for park

The Oban Times - - News -

AN OBAN youth worker has called on the authorities to build a dedicated facility for young BMX bikers and skateboarders in Oban.

Kevin Irvine, 27, organised and chaired a meeting last week at Oban Youth Cafe, after young people had been the subject of a public backlash for using the newly refurbished pedestrianised area of Stafford Street as a bike and skateboarding park.

Kevin, who has been a youth worker for five years, said: ‘The support from the public has been fantastic; I’ve been inundated with messages of support from the community as a whole.’

Councillors Iain S Maclean and Iain Angus MacDonald have said they will support the cause after the council recess.
