Hard work reaps re­ward for pupils

EXAM per­for­mance in the High­lands has im­proved, re­sults an­nounced this week showed.

While teenagers across the re­gion waited on the post­man on Tues­day, High­land coun­cil said this year’s S5 re­sults were an im­prove­ment on last year, while S4 was down slightly.

In the new Higher ex­ams, 443 pupils passed five in one sit­ting com­pared to 361 in 2014. There were also 77 pupils who achieved five straight As this year, up one on last year.

Coun­cil­lor Drew Mil­lar, chair­man of the lo­cal au­thor­ity’s ed­u­ca­tion, chil­dren and adult ser­vice’s com­mit­tee, praised the pupils: ‘I am de­lighted to hear that all the hard work put in by pupils, fam­i­lies and staff has de­liv­ered a good set of re­sults for the High­lands.

‘I wish to con­grat­u­late them all and of­fer my best wishes for what­ever path­way the pupils pur­sue in the fu­ture.’
