Councillor Hamish Fraser, chairman of the local authority’s Gaelic implementation group, said it will ‘greatly enhance’ language and culture in Lochaber.

He added: ‘The benefits of bilingual education have been widely acknowledged and this kind of education will also help to develop and sustain the Gaelic language.’

Councillor Drew Millar, chairman of education, care and learning and adult services, added the new school is ‘eagerly awaited’.
