Lochalsh teenager re­ceives top award for public ser­vice

A WEST High­land teenager has re­ceived an award for public ser­vice.

Ru­raidh Stewart, from Bal­macara, Lochalsh, was given the Ju­bilee ac­co­lade dur­ing a cer­e­mony at the House of Lords for out­stand­ing prac­ti­cal ac­tion in the ser­vice of oth­ers.

The 16-year- old, who is the Skye, Lochaber and Bade­noch rep­re­sen­ta­tive for the Scot­tish youth par­lia­ment, was recog­nised for his work with the ju­nior cli­mate chal­lenge fund and pro­mot­ing sus­tain­abil­ity and low car­bon lifestyles.

Ru­raidh, a Saltire awards am­bas­sador, was the only Scot­tish re­cip­i­ent among eight win­ners at the Lon­don cer­e­mony on July 30.
