Two in a row for Caol United

IT WAS two in a row for Lochaber Wel­fare League 2015 win­ners, Caol United, as they scooped the tro­phy again this year.

The team were un­de­feated in the league and team cap­tain, Far­quhar MacRae, was pleased to ac­cept the cup on be­half of the club dur­ing train­ing on Fri­day July 31. The tro­phy was pre­sented by Marine Harvest’s rep­re­sen­ta­tives, Davie Cor­ri­gan and Gareth But­ter­field.

Stephen Lopez, team man­ager said: ‘I’d like to say a big thank you to Marine Harvest for its con­tin­ued spon­sor­ship of the Lochaber wel­fare league.

‘The boys in the team have per­formed re­ally well all sea­son, and we will aim for much of the same next year.’

With the league fin­ished, the cup com­pe­ti­tions are now well un­der­way with Lun­davra tak­ing an early lead in the Kin­loch Shield when they beat Ne­vis Range 2- 0 last Tues­day, but Ne­vis pulled it back with a 6-1 vic­tory against Bal­lachul­ish on Thurs­day night.

In the Duthie cup, Caol United con­tin­ued their suc­cess with a 10- 4 win over Lochaber.

This week Ne­vis Range were sched­uled to play Lun­davra for the shield on Tues­day (Au­gust 4) be­fore tak­ing on Bal­lachul­ish tonight (Thurs­day).

Next week, Lochaber and Lun­davra will play in the semi­fi­nal of the Uis­dean Mac­Don­ald me­mo­rial cup, along with Mal­laig and Ne­vis Range, ahead of the fi­nal on Au­gust 14.
