Devastated by sudden deaths

The Oban Times - - News -

TWO sudden deaths on Mull at the weekend saw the passing of two well-respected islanders.

Bert Leitch, a much-loved farmer, known for his hats, humour and unfailing support of farming and rural life on the island, and who had battled cancer in recent months, died on Friday evening.

As well as being a past regional chairman for Argyll and Islands NFU, he was a very active Scotland member for many years, holding several roles.

But it will be for Bert’s real care of the land and the people on it that he will be remembered for most of all.

Keith Drake, who also died at the weekend, established the Tobermory Chocolate Company with his wife, Rhoda.

Between them, they turned it into one of the first professional chocolate shops in Scotland.

Full of fun, Keith had the ability to concoct some of the best chocolates sold throughout the islands.

He had been suffering from a long-term illness when he died, aged 60, over the weekend.

The funeral arrangements for both men have yet to be announced.
