Loss of seven jobs at Lochaline
STAYING with the fishing industry, there has been wide-spread disappointment in Mull and Morvern by Scottish Sea Farm’s decision to close its net washing centre on the south shores of Lochaline.
The net station, which has been operating for around 20 years, employing seven, will be a great loss to the area. Reinvestment, net-washing at sea and the requirement for a larger handling facility is blamed for the closure. Future business will be out-sourced to a unit at Kilbirnie in North Ayrshire, thus increasing the farm’s carbon footprint.
