A GREEN-fingered enthusiast is being sought to lease Quinish Garden, near Dervaig, which was reputedly used by Beatrix Potter as one of the views in her Peter Rabbit book.

Owner, Jonathan Quinn, said: ‘The house has a large walled garden and was originally built in 1780. It’s planted with fruit and vegetables and still has its original, massive walls. We’ve just bought it from the current owner with a plan to offer a long lease to a keen gardener to take it over. The garden has been restored over 25 years and it is stunning, with hundreds of different plants, some of them quite rare.

‘Despite this, hardly anyone has ever seen the garden, so we’re hoping to find someone who, as well as having the walled garden, would also design and create a new garden around the main house.

‘This would be about four acres and we are quite open-minded about the layout and style,’ he added.
