The Oban Times - - News -

PARENTS of ‘difficult’ preschool children in Lochaber have been invited to a support programme by Highland council and NHS Highland.

The ‘incredible years’ project aims to help parents of youngsters aged between three and five who are more demanding than others, with the support of trained staff.

Topics in the programme, to be held in Fort William from September, include setting limits, reducing conflict and improving social skills.

Alan Richards, Highland psychology of parenting project co- ordinator, said: ‘ For the parents who qualify this is important because they will receive support to attend, for example with child care, and there is a proven benefit arising out of getting involved with these groups when children are young and before they start school. Reaching the parents of three to five year- old children is important because it is at this young age when children can be supported effectively to grow and be successful.’
