United re­tain Duthie Cup lead

STILL ON a high from win­ning the Marine Harvest wel­fare league for a sec­ond year run­ning, Caol United have re­tained their early lead in the Duthie cup.

The team col­lected their sec­ond set of three points when they beat Lochaber 7- 4 last week, putting them com­fort­ably at the top of the ta­ble.

But clos­est ri­vals, Mal­laig, have yet to play in the cup com­pe­ti­tion and were hop­ing to pick up the points when they took on Caol in their first game last night, (Wed­nes­day).

In the Kin­loch shield, for the bot­tom half of the league, Lun­davra are at the top of the ta­ble af­ter beat­ing Ne­vis Range 5-2 last week. But the young Ne­vis team are just two points be­hind, af­ter draw­ing 3-3 with Bal­lachul­ish, who are float­ing at the bot­tom with just one point.

Lun­davra have also made it to the fi­nal of the Uis­dean Mac­Don­ald me­mo­rial cup, af­ter win­ning 5- 4 against Lochaber in the semi last week. The fi­nal will be played at Lochaber high school on Fri­day night. They will face ei­ther Mal­laig or Ne­vis Range in the fi­nal, who were sched­uled to play their semi fi­nal af­ter the Oban Times went to print.
