Trapped yacht is safely released
THE VOLUNTEER crew of Oban Lifeboat came to the assistance of a yacht last week, while on their way back from another call.
The lifeboat was alerted by Stornoway Coastguard at around 3pm on Wednesday, August 12 after a kayaker ran into trouble in Loch Melfort.
Minutes after launching, the crew were informed that the kayaker had been assisted by others in the vicinity and the lifeboat was therefore asked to stand down.
However, as the lifeboat was returning to station, the crew noticed that a yacht, with a single person on board had become stuck on a mooring in Oban Bay.
The lifeboat contacted the vessel to ascertain if assistance was required. The decision was made to assist the yacht back to its own mooring after releasing it from the obstruction.
