SIX AD­DI­TIONAL nurses and healthcare pro­fes­sion­als have been re­cruited to the Marie Curie can­cer care ser­vice in the Western Isles, pro­vid­ing sup­port to peo­ple liv­ing with a ter­mi­nal ill­ness.

Marie Curie nurses pro­vides care to pa­tients who wish to spend their fi­nal days at home.

The ex­tra staff for Lewis and Harris will com­ple­ment the three ex­ist­ing nurses who pro­vide overnight care to res­i­dents in Ben­bec­ula, Barra and Uist. The ser­vice is run in part­ner­ship with NHS Western Isles. Lynne Miller, the Marie Curie clin­i­cal nurse man­ager for the Western Isles, said: ‘Our new nurs­ing team mem­bers are ex­cited to get started and will be work­ing closely with NHS Western Isles staff to pro­vide joined-up care and sup­port where it is so des­per­ately needed.’
