SQUEAKY clean food businesses in the Western Isles will be rewarded for going over and above normal hygiene standards.

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has offered the Eat Safe award to any establishments selling food directly to customers.

To qualify, businesses must go over and above the food hygiene and safe management standards required by law.

Norman Macleod, chairman of the comhairle’s of environment and protective services, said: ‘The Eat Safe award is only presented to businesses that have achieved hygiene standards beyond those required by law, so their commitment has to be commended. I would encourage all businesses within the Outer Hebrides to aim for this award as it provides them with a valuable tool to reassure their customers of a continuing commitment to produce food safely.’
