Green-fin­gered pupils vow gar­den­ing show judges

BUD­DING young gar­den­ers wowed judges at this year’s Lochaber Ru­ral Ed­u­ca­tion Trust gar­den­ing show, de­spite the poor weather this sum­mer.

Pupils from Lochy­side, Banavie, Spean Bridge, In­ver­lochy, Bun Schol Gaelic Lochabair and Lochaber high schools took part in the sixth event to be held by the trust.

The an­nual Marie Ma­cLean chal­lenge is spe­cially themed each year and, this time, judges were ex­pect­ing roses. With more than 100 en­tries for­warded from nurs­eries, play­groups and pri­mary schools, the judges had a dif­fi­cult task.

Re­sults: Best veg­etable ex­hibit, Banavie Fri­day club (cab­bage); best flower ex­hibit – Lo­gan Spence (sin­gle rose); most out­stand­ing ex­hibit in play­group classes, Cooper Spence (hand print); most out­stand­ing ex­hibit in nurs­ery classes, Emily Byrne, Banavie (dec­o­rated cup); most out­stand­ing ex­hibit in pri­mary school class, Ruairaidh Stephen BSGLA (dec­o­rated flower pot); The Dun­can tro­phy for most points, Kil­mallie play­group; Gig­gles Child­care tro­phy for most points, Banavie nurs­ery; United Auc­tions tro­phy for most points, Banavie pri­mary; The Linda Camp­bell spoon for most points; Mar­garet An­to­nios; Is­abel Camp­bell MBE Tankard for most points; Lo­gan Spence.
