Green-fingered pupils vow gardening show judges
BUDDING young gardeners wowed judges at this year’s Lochaber Rural Education Trust gardening show, despite the poor weather this summer.
Pupils from Lochyside, Banavie, Spean Bridge, Inverlochy, Bun Schol Gaelic Lochabair and Lochaber high schools took part in the sixth event to be held by the trust.
The annual Marie MacLean challenge is specially themed each year and, this time, judges were expecting roses. With more than 100 entries forwarded from nurseries, playgroups and primary schools, the judges had a difficult task.
Results: Best vegetable exhibit, Banavie Friday club (cabbage); best flower exhibit – Logan Spence (single rose); most outstanding exhibit in playgroup classes, Cooper Spence (hand print); most outstanding exhibit in nursery classes, Emily Byrne, Banavie (decorated cup); most outstanding exhibit in primary school class, Ruairaidh Stephen BSGLA (decorated flower pot); The Duncan trophy for most points, Kilmallie playgroup; Giggles Childcare trophy for most points, Banavie nursery; United Auctions trophy for most points, Banavie primary; The Linda Campbell spoon for most points; Margaret Antonios; Isabel Campbell MBE Tankard for most points; Logan Spence.
