OBAN ATH­LETIC kicked off their league cam­paign on Satur­day when they trav­elled to take on newly formed Ar­gyll ri­vals, Rose­neath.

Ex Oban Saints keeper, Daniel Cas­sells, was on hand to help out, fill­ing in for Graham Dou­glas in goals.

Ath­letic started the game well de­spite only hav­ing one sub­sti­tute and, by half-time, the Oban side were 4- 0 up, with Alan Buchanan scor­ing the first, fol­lowed by a Kris Gillies hat-trick.

The sec­ond-half be­gan as the first ended with Ath­letic main­tain­ing their dom­i­nance of pos­ses­sion.

Alan Buchanan scored his sec­ond of the day in spec­tac­u­lar fash­ion to make it 5- 0. The teenager hit the back of the net from 40 yards with a first time volley.

Ath­letic were then awarded a free kick from 30 yards which Sean Ford struck into the top cor­ner to make it 6- 0.

Rose­neath then took con­trol of the pos­ses­sion and scored a con­so­la­tion goal with 10 min­utes to go, but in the end the visi­tors ran out com­fort­able 6-1 win­ners.

Ath­letic are away to Cardross next week in the sec­ond round of the league cup.
