Wooden bike rack just the job

-

AN ISLAND shop has a new bike rack thanks to some handy local lads who took the time to collect and cut down materials from a forest.

As part of a community vow to re-use leftover wood from the forest and put it to good use throughout Raasay, the shop has installed a new bike rack.

David Carslaw, manager of Raasay community stores, said: ‘It is something that as a community we are trying to do; re-use the wood rather than let it go to rot.

‘It also fits in with the location of our village and theme.

‘This was just one of the ideas for projects that we have had. As a community we are hoping to create resting places throughout the village, particularly with members of the older generation in mind.

‘It means they can walk knowing there are plenty of seating areas where they can take a break. It will also prevent us or the council from having to buy in benches or seating areas.’

People who can collect large pieces of wood or can saw and re-style wood are welcome to get involved.
