Final summer show then the prizes

-

LOCHABER schools pipe band played its final high street show of the season ahead of an awards presentation.

The band plays throughout the summer season on the High Street of Fort William to the public and Friday was its last of 2015.

The band also carried out its annual award ceremony in the town.

Piper Sean MacDonald received the June Standen Memorial Shield, which is a prestigious award presented only to the bestturned- out piper or drummer of the season.

Brothers Ewen and Iain MacQueen received special prizes from Jim Sutherland, head teacher of Lochaber high school, and instructor Margaret MacMaster, because they have both reached the age to leave the band.

Ewen is the most senior piper with the band. He joined as a primary school pupil and has been performing with the band for seven years. Ewen will leave to begin work as an apprentice mechanic. Iain has been drumming with the band for five years and will leave Fort William to study maths at Glasgow University.
