Decision to fly flag is praised

The Oban Times - - News -

THE FLYING of the Red Ensign flag on Merchant Navy day last week has been met with praise from across the county.

It is hoped the idea of councillor Maurice Corry, who has a special brief as the Armed Forces Champion within Argyll and Bute council, can be continued.

Mr Corry told the Oban Times: ‘I am really pleased with the flying of the Red Ensign to commemorate the huge sacrifice by members of the Merchant Navy in the two World Wars. We must ensure this is an annual event.’

David Pearson, of Clachan Seil, praised the actions of the loca authority for raising the flag.

He said: ‘A big thank you to whoever was responsible for flying the Red Ensign on the council offices on September 3, Merchant Navy Day.

‘It’s good that some folk still remember the lives lost.’
