Plea to keep calls local

The Oban Times - - News -

OBAN community council has officially asked for police calls about Oban to be answered in Oban.

At an Oban community council meeting last week, community councillor George Berry said: ‘Speaking to local people is invaluable when you speak to the police.’

Explaining that he has had difficulties getting information in both Oban and Fort William when he goes through the police 101 line, he continued: ‘I would much rather get through to the local station because people are more likely to know what we are talking about.’

Inspector Mark Stephen said: ‘The centre has dictated the 101 number.

‘Local stations are invaluable. But all calls are now routed through the centre.’
