A LEWIS pipe band is to benefit from a £10,000 grant from the National Lottery that will help to enlist the support of two world champion drummers.

The money was granted to the Nicolson Institute Music Trust, based in Stornoway, and will finance a new programme, the Big Noise Project.

The trust has developed a partnership with Lewis Pipe Band and the two groups share tuition and equipment.

The money means the trust can buy equipment and pay for tuition from D2 Percussio and Red Hot Chilli Pipers’ drummers David Ross and David Henderson.

The pair, who recently won the world pipe band champion ships with Shotts and Dykehead band, are already inspiring school pupils to take up snare drumming.

David Ross and David Henderson will provide coaching workshops with the groups.
