AN ISLAY pub has made it third time lucky, after it fought off competition from across Scotland to be named whisky bar of the year at the annual Dram magazine awards dinner.

The Ballygrant Inn and Restaurant came first at the awards ceremony at the Hilton Hotel, Glasgow, last month.

The Dram Magazine Scottish Bar and Pub Awards aim to reward and promote excellence in the licensed trade and are eagerly contested among bars, pubs, hotels and clubs.

In the whisky bar of the year category, Ballygrant Inn and Restaurant was one of four finalists, along with the Ardshiel Hotel, Campbeltown, the Pot Still, Glasgow, and the Curly Coo, Stirling. David Graham, Ballygrant owner, said: ‘ We are delighted to win. I would like to thank our customers and guests for their support and for nominating us for this award.’
