AN ‘administrative error’ will see local mail deliveries reinstated to Mull and Tiree after a report in the Oban Times.
However, mail from Oban and Lorn will continue to make a 200-mile round trip to Glasgow and back.
Last week it was reported that mail from the islands and Oban makes a journey of more than 100 miles in order for it to be sorted in Glasgow before being sent back to Argyll and the isles.
A Royal Mail spokeswoman said this week: ‘After investigating this issue, we have identified an administrative error which temporarily led to a change in how mail was sorted and delivered locally on Mull and Tiree. This has now been rectified, so from September 10, mail posted on Mull and Tiree for addresses on those islands will be delivered locally.‘
