Local jobs safe

JOBS are said not to be under threat after the sale of Tilhill Forestry, a significant presence in the Argyll forestry industry.

Tilhill was purchased from its former owner, Finnish outfit UPM, on September 1 by Borders-based BSW Timber Limited.

With significant forestry management interests across Argyll established over four decades, Tilhill has offices in Oban and Strachur and directly employs 18 local staff.

A large number of local subcontractors are also employed, in tasks from ground preparation through planting and husbandry to harvesting and haulage.

A Tilhill spokesperson explained: ‘ There are currently no anticipated job losses as a result of the change of ownership’, adding that there would be ‘no impact’ on ongoing contracts.
