Top cadet moves on

FORT Wil­liam’s high­est achiev­ing army cadet bid a farewell to his col­leagues as he leaves for univer­sity.

The Cadet Com­pany’s sergeant ma­jor Oskar Wineberg, 18, of the 1st Bat­tal­ion of the High­landers leaves the bat­tal­ion hav­ing com­pleted his time as a cadet in the Army Cadet Force (ACF).

Oskar joined in May 2010 and has sailed through train­ing and man­age­ment to com­plete his master cadet award in March this year - the high­est pos­si­ble achieve­ment for a cadet.

Oskar has also com­pleted all three lev­els of the Duke of Ed­in­burgh award and was pre­sented with his gold award at Holy­rood House back in July.

He has also com­pleted the cadet lead­er­ship course and was hon­oured to be given the role of last year’s Lord Lieu­tenant’s cadet of Lochaber.

The for­mer Lochaber high school pupil’s next chal­lenge is at the Univer­sity of Dundee where he will study to be­come a doc­tor.
