Under 21 squad announced

The Oban Times - - Sport -

FOLLOWING on from the North Under 21 v South Under 21 game at Ballachulish last Saturday, Scotland under 21 head coach, Garry Reid, has selected 23 players who will now go forward to form a provisional training squad before final selection is made for the forthcoming Scotland Under 21 v Ireland Under 21 shinty/ hurling fixture that will take place in Inverness on October 24

Reid has taken into account the number of fixtures that some players still have to play in the run up to the end of the season and, as such, has named a larger squad initially before whittling it down to the final squad of 19.

Garry Reid, in his second year as head coach, is happy with the process so far. He said: ‘The North v South encounter proved to be a really close-fought contest, with a really high standard of play and a fast tempo to the game. There are a lot of good quality young players out there to choose from and they have certainly made it extremely difficult for the coaching team to make their final selection.

‘Given that this season will run right up to the international fixture this year we have named a larger squad at this time to take that into account, and we will reduce the squad further following the second training session.’
