Strontian family fun day success
A FAMILY day held in Strontian for the first time attracted more than 250 people and proved to be a success.
Presented by the local visitor information center (VIC) the Wild Lochaber Family Day provided a range of fun activities, talks and games for everyone.
The recent event was set up to promote the village’s natural outdoors and wildlife.
Nikki Robertson, visitor services advisor, who helped facilitate the event said: ‘Despite the weather not being on our side, the Wild Lochaber Family Day was a great community success. Over 100 went to the talks in the afternoon. The library had over 60 visitors and the ceilidh in the evening attracted over 80. The following day’s trip to Carna had over 40 people, and we were really pleased with the turnout.’ Kayaking, cycling and boat trips were among some of the activities available and were all fully booked on the day. Nikki said: ‘Some of the people who had a go at the kayaking and cycling are now thinking about taking them up as hobbies, which is great.’
The team had venues at Strontian VIC and in Ardnamurchan high school. Nikki is already said to be planning next year’s event.
