Cen­tre cel­e­brates tenth an­niver­sary

TWO EVENTS will be held next month to celebrate the tenth an­niver­sary of the Lochaber Ru­ral Ed­u­ca­tion Cen­tre at An Clachan.

A fam­ily fun day will be held at the com­plex in Tor­lundy on Oc­to­ber 24 with ac­tiv­i­ties in­clud­ing a trea­sure hunt, wet welly walk, crafts and a bar­be­cue. The fol­low­ing Fri­day (Oc­to­ber 30) a fundrais­ing din­ner dance with an auc­tion and raf­fle will take place at Caol Com­mu­nity Cen­tre. The An­drew Mac­Don­ald Ceilidh Band will per­form and BBC Alba pre­sen­ter Don­ald MacSween pro­vid­ing the af­ter­dinner speech.

Lochaber quar­tet in tourism fi­nals

LOCHABER has made it to the fi­nal of the High­lands and Is­lands Tourism Awards four times this year.

The UCI Moun­tain Bike World Cup in Fort Wil­liam has been short­listed for best sport­ing event, fundrais­ing ef­fort, Com­mando Spirit, has made it to the top three in the cul­tural event or fes­ti­val cat­e­gory, Ard­na­mur­chan’s Rock­pool House is among the most hos­pitable B&B or guest­house fi­nal­ists and Ardgour Es­tate is vy­ing for best hol­i­day ac­com­mo­da­tion.

Win­ners will be an­nounced in In­ver­ness on Novem­ber 13.

Tanker crash sees homes evac­u­ated

HOMES near Plock­ton had to be evac­u­ated on Tues­day af­ter a tanker car­ry­ing propane gas veered off the road.

The ac­ci­dent hap­pened on the un­clas­si­fied road at 8.40am. A po­lice spokesman con­firmed a 100-me­tre area had been cor­doned off un­til the area was made safe. No- one was in­jured.
