Son to raise charity funds

-

AN OBAN man is cycling 400 kilometre across Cuba to raise money for cancer patients at Lorn and the Islands hospital.

CalMac worker, Danny Keenan, 48, is swapping the engine room of the Finlaggan ferry for lycra and a bicycle seat in order to raise cash for an internet connection at the MacMillan cancer care room in the Oban hospital.

Danny will be accompanied by CalMac colleague, Mark Buchan, on the trek.

Danny, a father of two, explained: ‘I am really pleased that I will also be raising money for the hospital to provide much needed services for patients. We have lost a good few friends and relatives over the years and some of them were helped immensely by the staff in Oban.’

But for Danny the MacMillan Cancer Support facilities at the hospital are close to his heart, after mum, Beatrice, has undergone treatment for cancer on two occasions. Beatrice, a former nurse at the hospital, said she was very proud of Mark. His chosen charity is the British Heart Foundation and the men have paid for the whole trip themselves.

To donate to Mark’s charity trek, sponsor forms are available from members of the MacMillan group in Oban and at the hospital.
