Islay man six times over limit

AN ISLAY man, who was nearly seven times over the drink- drive limit, has been banned from driving for three years.

Alistair Peter Learmond’s car was stopped shortly after he drove off the ferry in Oban on September 2.

Procurator fiscal Eoin McGinty said police received an anonymous call that a car was being driven erraticall­y and police officers stopped the car after seeing it cross the white line on several occasions.

Learmond, 34, of 6 Glen Road, Bridgend, admitted drink- driving at Corran Esplanade on September 2; he had a breath-test reading of 142 mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The limit is 22.

Sheriff Ruth Anderson QC, handed down a community payback order for 100 hours of unpaid work along with the three-year driving ban.
