Local homeowners have their say
Barcaldine based company, Renewables Now, took to the streets of Oban and Fort William in October to ask local homeowners how they currently heat their homes and which heating technology they would choose in the future. The survey provided an insight into how the public feel about renewable heating and delivered some surprising results.
With the future of renewable energy often dominating the headlines, not to mention the fast approach of the Scottish Government’s 2020 bid to reduce carbon emissions, it’s no wonder that 91% of people surveyed in Oban were aware of renewable heating and renewable energy. The survey revealed that over a third of the homeowners living in Oban and almost half of those in Fort William who currently have electric heating were unhappy and expressed a strong desire to change to a ‘less expensive’ method of heating. Of these, 39% were considering a switch to a renewable form of heating, however, over half of the homeowners were unsure of how to source further information when considering a renewable heating installation.
Of the homeowners who had a clear idea of how to select a supplier, the majority declared the need to find a well- established local company capable of providing advice for a range of options and a company who could deliver a bespoke service before, during and after installation.
