Dun­beg man ad­mits sex­ual as­sault

A MAN who pestered a teenage girl has been placed on the Sex Of­fend­ers’ Reg­is­ter.

Thomas John Barr, 55, of Meadow Road, Dun­beg, ad­mit­ted part way through a trial at Oban Sher­iff Court on Tues­day that on Septem­ber 19 he sex­u­ally as­saulted the girl by touch­ing her on her bot­tom and at­tempt­ing to kiss her.

Giv­ing ev­i­dence, the girl had said Barr would hug her and make com­ments about her ap­pear­ance – and that on th­ese oc­ca­sions he was of­ten drunk.

She said: ‘I was scared that if I told him not to hug me he might turn on me.

‘He smelled of drink, cig­gies and BO,’ she said, ‘his speech was slurred and he stag­gered.’

Sher­iff John Her­ald de­ferred sen­tence un­til De­cem­ber 23 for crim­i­nal jus­tice and so­cial work re­ports to be pre­pared on Barr and made an in­terim or­der plac­ing him on the Sex Of­fend­ers’ Reg­is­ter.
