Dunbeg man admits sexual assault
A MAN who pestered a teenage girl has been placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register.
Thomas John Barr, 55, of Meadow Road, Dunbeg, admitted part way through a trial at Oban Sheriff Court on Tuesday that on September 19 he sexually assaulted the girl by touching her on her bottom and attempting to kiss her.
Giving evidence, the girl had said Barr would hug her and make comments about her appearance – and that on these occasions he was often drunk.
She said: ‘I was scared that if I told him not to hug me he might turn on me.
‘He smelled of drink, ciggies and BO,’ she said, ‘his speech was slurred and he staggered.’
Sheriff John Herald deferred sentence until December 23 for criminal justice and social work reports to be prepared on Barr and made an interim order placing him on the Sex Offenders’ Register.
