Glas­gow to host 2019 Royal Na­tional Mòd

GLAS­GOW will host The Royal Na­tional Mòd in 2019 – 29 years since the fes­ti­val was last held in the city.

Prepa­ra­tions are al­ready un­der way for 2016’s Royal Na­tional Mòd, which will take place in the Western Isles.

John Mor­ri­son, chief ex­ec­u­tive of An Co­munn Gàid­healach said: ‘ We’re thrilled to an­nounce that Glas­gow will host The Royal Na­tional Mòd in 2019 and we look for­ward to bring­ing our cel­e­bra­tions to Scot­land’s big­gest city. Oban has been an in­cred­i­bly wel­com­ing town and the cal­i­bre of tal­ent com­pet­ing this year has been in­cred­i­ble. We are ex­cited to start our plan­ning for The Mòd Western Isles 2016 and look for­ward to see­ing many fa­mil­iar faces there next year.’

DI Brown, chair of the Glas­gow 2019 Lo­cal Or­gan­is­ing Com­mit­tee, said: ‘The Lo­cal Or­gan­is­ing Com­mit­tee (LOC) is de­lighted that An Co­munn thought our bid was strong enough to se­cure the Mòd in Glas­gow. The LOC be­lieves Glas­gow is an ex­cel­lent lo­ca­tion to host the Mòd and is sure it will de­liver an ex­cel­lent Mòd for both Mòd-goes and Glaswe­gians alike in 2019.’
