New Highlands air link with London welcomed
A NEW air link between the Highlands and London has been welcomed.
British Airways announced last week it would be introducing a new service between Inverness and Heathrow, 18 years after the airline terminated flights between the two cities. The daily flight joins the current EasyJet service between Inverness and Gatwick.
David Stewart, Highlands and Islands MSP and Scottish spokesman for transport, said: ‘Better connectivity is badly needed across the Highlands and Islands. In particular, we needed better connectivity with London. There is no doubt if we can provide and sustain more frequent flights to London we can benefit from an increase in the tourism industry, business connections will be improved and there will be much-improved trade routes, not to mention the positive effect for those wishing to pursue leisure experiences.’
Highland Council leader Margaret Davidson also welcomed the plans: ‘This is excellent news for the economy of the Highlands. It gives the signal out to the rest of the world that it is easy to get to the Highlands.’
