Visitor centre planned at famous island landmark
ONE OF Skye’s most famous landmarks could soon have a visitor centre to increase its already huge profile.
The Staffin Community Trust has been in talks with Highland Council to create an off-road car park, toilets, information and refreshments at the Old Man of Storr in the north east of the island.
The rocky hill has regularly featured in films, including Prometheus and Macbeth, as well as television programmes, adverts and magazines, and the community trust hopes to buy or lease land near the Storr to create the centre.
Donald MacDonald, chairman of Staffin Community Trust, said: ‘There is an opportunity here to provide a fantastic, much needed, facility that will be able to support the increasing numbers of visitors that visit this iconic attraction.’
The trust will issue questionnaires to every household in Staffin as part of a major consultation on the plans.
