Petition for talks successful
A CAMPAIGN calling for Prime Minister David Cameron to raise the plight of six men stranded in India with the country’s President Narendra Modi during his recent visit was successful.
Yvonne Machugh, the partner of Connel man Billy Irving, who has been held in India for more than two years, told The Oban Times: ‘I am delighted to let everyone know that through your support and help with the petition at change.org, it was delivered to the Indian Ambassador in London during Prime Minister Modi’s visit.
‘Today we got confirmation from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office that Prime Minister David Cameron raised the men’s case with Prime Minister Modi.
‘We have no information as to what was said, but this is a huge step and a very positive one.
‘Please continue to share and sign the petition. We will continue to use it to show the support for our men stuck in India and will not give up fighting until the are on home soil.’
