Development officer pays a visit to Uist
ACTIVE Schools coordinated a visit by Camanachd Association development officer Ronald Ross recently.
Around 95 children from P6 and P7 travelled to Sgoil Lionacleit to attend the festival. This was led by Ronald and supported by Active Schools and rounded off a block of shinty lessons that pupils received through PE at school.
A mass warm-up was followed by some ball skills and learning the basics of shinty. The last hour allowed the girls to play a series of games in the games hall and the boys to play their matches on the 3G Pitch. The children were mixed up into teams so were able to meet pupils from other schools and get to know them a little better.
Ronald was impressed with the level of ability on show and all who attended were encouraged to attend Uist Camanachd’s training sessions which take place at Liniclate every Saturday, 12-2pm.
In addition, Active Schools visited schools after the October holidays to develop school teams who will train at lunch times and prepare for a tournament to be scheduled for early December. So far, five schools are up and running with lunch time clubs.
Active Schools would like to thank the Camanachd Association and Ronald for taking the time to travel to Uist.
