De­vel­op­ment of­fi­cer pays a visit to Uist

AC­TIVE Schools co­or­di­nated a visit by Ca­manachd As­so­ci­a­tion de­vel­op­ment of­fi­cer Ron­ald Ross re­cently.

Around 95 chil­dren from P6 and P7 trav­elled to Sgoil Liona­cleit to at­tend the fes­ti­val. This was led by Ron­ald and sup­ported by Ac­tive Schools and rounded off a block of shinty lessons that pupils re­ceived through PE at school.

A mass warm-up was fol­lowed by some ball skills and learn­ing the ba­sics of shinty. The last hour al­lowed the girls to play a se­ries of games in the games hall and the boys to play their matches on the 3G Pitch. The chil­dren were mixed up into teams so were able to meet pupils from other schools and get to know them a lit­tle bet­ter.

Ron­ald was im­pressed with the level of abil­ity on show and all who at­tended were en­cour­aged to at­tend Uist Ca­manachd’s train­ing ses­sions which take place at Lini­clate ev­ery Satur­day, 12-2pm.

In ad­di­tion, Ac­tive Schools vis­ited schools af­ter the Oc­to­ber hol­i­days to de­velop school teams who will train at lunch times and pre­pare for a tour­na­ment to be sched­uled for early De­cem­ber. So far, five schools are up and run­ning with lunch time clubs.
