12 jobs at risk at Glensanda quarry
A DOZEN workers at Glensanda Super Quarry are set to lose their jobs over the festive period.
CA Blackwell, which deals with the load and haulage at Glensanda Quarry after being awarded the contract in July 2013, said it was making the redundancies following the introduction of new crushing technology.
A company spokesman said: ‘Normally this processing would take place seven days a week, but the new crusher allows the same volume to be achieved in just five days.
‘As a result of the change to the contract, we have put 12 plant operator roles at risk.
‘Consultations have commenced with those affected and other roles within our business are being identified to minimise any impact. There are no plans for any further redundancies.’
The Blackwell Glensanda contract currently employs 50 people on rotating shifts seven days a week. Due to the changes, the load and haul contract has been extended by 22 months and is now planned to finish in April 2019.
