Clachan burn bursts its banks
MAJOR flooding due to torrential rain closed the A83 trunk road at Clachan but substantial damage was averted thanks to a multi-agency response.
At about 5am, on Sunday November 15, the small burn, which flows behind the fuel station burst its banks.
A large green lorry container, used as a store by Clachan Garage, was washed into the burn and lodged against five trees opposite the village hall.
There followed 12 hours of rescue activity involving Argyll and Bute Council, Police Scotland, the coastguard and Campbeltown Fire and Rescue Service, contractors Macleod, McFadyen and McNaughton as well as local farmers, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency, Scottish and Southern Energy and forestry contractors.
