Norovirus fears shut hos­pi­tal wards

WARDS in two High­land hos­pi­tals had to be closed af­ter sus­pected out­breaks of norovirus.

Ward one at the Belford in Fort Wil­liam was closed on Wed­nes­day last week af­ter six pa­tients ex­pe­ri­enced sick­ness and di­ar­rheoa but re­opened on Thurs­day af­ter in­ves­ti­ga­tions found the virus wasn’t present. Ward 6C at Raig­more has been closed since Thurs­day af­ter four pa­tients tested pos­i­tive for norovirus.

The In­ten­sive Treat­ment Unit (ITU) at the In­ver­ness hos­pi­tal was also closed from last Tues­day af­ter two pa­tients tested pos­i­tive, but re­opened on Fri­day fol­low­ing a deep clean.
