Excitement builds for Glasgow Skye events

The Oban Times - - News - ROBERT ROBERTSON robert.d.robertson@hotmail.co.uk

THERE is just over a week to go until the most anticipated association event of the year - the Glasgow Skye’s 150th annual gathering.

The gathering, on Friday December 4, will feature an array of singers and musicians from the island performing at the concert, which begins at 7.30pm in Glasgow University Union.

Trail West will play for dancing from 10.30pm to 2pm.

The evening is going to be special indeed, showing all the generations of Skye Gaelic singers.

There are no less than 17 Mòd Gold Medallists from the island taking to the stage - some of whom sang 50 years ago at the 100th gathering - and some of whom are a fair bit younger than that.

Last week, I included the gathering poster in this column and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a line-up that has got me so excited for a concert.

The committee has been putting in a power of work all year to mark the association’s anniversary, which included a fantastic dinner in the City Chambers earlier in the year.

It has all been building up to the gathering - which will be one final Glasgow Skye birthday party of 2015.

Ticket sales have been going extremely well for the gathering.

Glasgow Skye nights are always good, but this one is totally unmissable.
