The Oban Times - - News -

We was robbed. Would Argyll and Bute’s budget cuts be as deep if we had been given more money in the first place?

The Oban Times reported the founding of Argyllshire County Council in 1890, its replacement by Strathclyde Regional Council in 1975 and Strathclyde’s death in 1996.

A very strong case was made at the time that Argyll and Bute Council did not receive a fair share when the Strathclyde spoils were divided. And we certainly do not have an equal share of the Special Islands Needs Allowance. Irate parents are outside Kilmory before council meetings as people fight for vital services. A couple of years ago it was carers and pensioners. Instead of fighting amongst ourselves why not join together and fight for a better deal? Look at the map, look at our social, economic and geographic problems; everyone likes to think they are a special case, but here in Argyll we are. Hand over the cash.
